Serafina is a recently incorporated Non Profit organization with the purpose is enhancing lives of elderly and handicapped people. We currently have over 160 pantry clients from RBJ and neighboring area. Much of our time is spent gathering and distributing food and essential items (hygiene products) that our sponsors and partners donate regularly.
Our accomplishments include running the RBJ Residential Tower HOPE food pantry for the past two years, in partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank and the RBJ administration.
Our president, Farah Rivera, in addition to actively working and overseeing Serafina activities, is also involved in organizing and developing activities for the RBJ residents along with the residents’ council.
We’ve developed partnerships with Southwest Key programs, La Pena Latino Cultural Arts Organization, Stonebriar Rehab and Capitol Area Food Bank (See Sponsors and Partners) to provide exercise classes, art exhibitions, nutrition and cooking classes for the residents who are also Serafina clients. . Edward’s Home Health Care and The City of Austin’s nurses provide monthly visits to the RBJ center. Other sponsors who donate or provide volunteers include Easter Seals/Costco, The 2nd street Baptist Community Center, Angel House, Stonebriar Rehabilitation, Riverside Rehabilitation, United Healthcare and Simple Pleasures Catering.
In the past, we were selected by the University of Texas to be a part of “UT: The Project” where “our project” involved remodeling of our pantry done by the volunteer UT students, Keep Austin Beautiful and Home Depot.
We were also recipients of the first “Love Your Block, Austin” City of Austin grant which helped us upgrade our pantry’s storage area as well as helped make the nearby Festival Beach Community Garden more accessible and user-friendly by adding additional water line extensions and gathering adaptive tools for our elderly and disabled gardeners who grow food in the garden. .
We also regularly distribute hygiene products to Serafina clients. We always welcome donations to keep sufficient stock and distribution to our clients active Some of the sponsors who have donated hygiene products to Serafina in the past include The Gathering Place Worship Center, Stonebriar Rehab, Riverside Rehab, Edward’s Home Healthcare and The Friday Family.
